By training, I am a decorative arts historian and have worked in the antiques trade for several years. By hobby, I am a keen observer of contemporary design and an active calligrapher, fiber artist, and bookbinder. I grew up among antiques and devoted my academic career to studying them, but I cannot get away from a fascination with modern design and craft. After moving from one extreme to another, I’m convinced that each is best highlighted when they occupy the same space, when the vocabularies are mixed. My goal for this blog is to explore interactions between antiques, craft, and design.
